What is Tree Removal / Tree Felling
Tree removal involves, where possible the felling of a tree to the ground. Here it will be processed, the branches chipped, and the trunk sectioned and removed from the area.
Usually, limited space dictates that the tree will be dismantled in sections, by removing the branches, followed by sections of the trunk, often using ropes and rigging techniques.
When should you carry out tree felling/ removal?
Tree felling can be carried out at any time of the year, with a few exceptions.
Nesting season for birds, typically in Spring, can put a hold on tree removal.
*It is against the law to disturb any nesting birds during nesting season.
Why should you fell a tree?
If a tree has sustained severe damage or has died, then swift removal is the best option.
As a tree owner, you have a duty of care to ensure people and property are protected from anything that could be a hazard. Usually, this means deadwooding your trees, but if a tree is dangerous, it should be removed immediately.
If a tree is dead, causing damage or potential damage to a property, obstructing development plans, or showing signs of a lifting root plate, removal is usually your best option. If you have a large specimen tree and you are unsure if it is safe or not, then a Tree condition report is required from a qualified surveyor.
What is the cost of tree felling / removal?
Unfortunately, as with every service carried out by a tree surgeon, even a rough estimate in terms of price is hard to give without visiting the tree in situ.
Many factors such as access, location, size, restrictions all will play a part in the removal of the tree. Trees that require being dismantled in sections due to confined space is more costly.
However, retaining the waste (woodchip and timber) can bring the cost down.
As a loose guide, small trees will start at a cost of £200, and very large complex removals can be upwards of £5000.
